Canoe the Swedish Lakes

We are excited to announce our 2025 Swedish Lakes Expedition to Immeln in southern Sweden. It is going to be a true canoe bushcraft experience. You will travel across the connected lakes of Immeln, Filkesjon, Raslangen and Halen. Dropping off at remote islands, including the famous ‘Troll Island’, where tales of Swedish history resonate.

Jay and his team will guide you through the expedition, teaching you all the skills required in Canadian canoeing, bushcraft and field craft of Sweden, completely unique to the area. Within a few paddle strokes, you’ll find yourself straight into the stunning lakes and forests that make you feel you are truly in the wilds.

What to expect?

Canoe Sweden ExpeditionThere will be plenty of time to work on bushcraft projects throughout the week, with the experienced eye of our guides. Whether it be carving your first spoon, bow drill fire lighting, fishing, making a Birchbark pot.

We will guide you in making the best meals from fresh ingredients, stews, curries, casseroles in a bushcraft setting. The expedition will work as one team. Everyone will play a part in cooking, washing up, collecting firewood and generally getting stuck in.

To take part in this wonderful experience, all we ask that you are reasonably fit and healthy. We are able to take people with little or no experience and get them up to a good standard very quickly.

Each day we will cover 10-15 km in tandem canoes, carrying all your equipment in these versatile boats.

Canoe PortageThere will be a few times when we will need to carry our equipment and canoes from one lake to another. As a team everyone helps with the use of special canoe portage trolleys. This is not a problem and it’s a good time to stretch your legs.

This adventure will be an amazing experience, shared with people you are likely to keep in touch with, way beyond the Sweden expedition. It is a wonderful way of getting away, finding new friends and having some down time for yourself.

There will be a wide range of canoe and bushcraft skills covered over the week, including:

  • Canoe loading and packing
  • Tandem and solo canoe skills
  • How to canoe sail, plus how to track and line a canoe along a river
  • Canoe rescue, and general canoe safety skills
  • Night paddling and natural navigation
  • Fire-lighting skills, including using a bow-drill
  • Axe and knife workshops, with projects to keep you busy
  • Campcraft, knots, lashings and cordage making
  • Freshwater fishing
  • Camp cooking using traditional methods

What to bring?

We say “come as a hiker” – all you need to bring is enough clothing and equipment to be self-sufficient: a tent, tarp or hammock, sleeping bag and ground mat. Warm, dry and comfortable is all you need to be.

Canoe expedition. Carry your own.

What is the minimum age for the trip?

This trip is ideal for families with teenage children, couples and singles.

What is the cost of the Sweden Canoe Expedition?

Cost: £1600.00 per person
Deposit £480 (30%) and a final payment by 1st June 2025.

Additional costs: Your personal transport costs to Copenhagen. This ranges from £150 to £250 return. Generally the earlier that you book your flights, the cheaper they can be found.

Please be aware that part of the costs of the expedition goes towards the upkeep of the area which is managed by rangers. I personally like the thought that we are helping to preserve and promote a sustainable use of this stunning area.

Accommodation?

Think wild, think tent, but it is your own personal choice. Tents, hammocks, bashers. It’s your choice. You could even try sleeping in one of the many Swedish shelters that are found along the way. There’s always enough space to find your own area and set up camp.

For those who are more adventurous, we will assist you in building a natural shelter for a night out bushcraft style.

Canoe sharing gives the greatest experience for all

Sharing a canoe experience brings people together. Families, friends and individuals pull
together throughout the week often making life long friendships and memories beyond our experience. Come and join us for an adventure that will inspire you to do more!

Canoe tandem is the most relaxing way of sharing

Within a few paddle strokes, you are straight in the stunning lakes and forests that make you feel you are truly in the wilds.

I gain a great deal of satisfaction in guiding people in Sweden, to see them relax, laugh,
make new friends and embrace this beautiful country is reward enough.
